Megan's Big Girl Room

Megan's big girl room is almost finished and i have to say it's adorable. A little girlier than I originally planned, but still very cute. Nathan finished refinishing Megan's dresser and it looks fantastic. The flowers are wall stickers and can come on and off without any problem. Great for when Megan decides to redecorate. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of borders, but it was already up when we moved in. Since I don't hate it and the people who lived here before us did an extremely good job putting up borders (Nate spent 8 hours taking 1 down in the dinning room.) I decided to leave it. I'm a big fan of color so I defiantly love the lavender. In fact, in every house we've lived in I've had a purple room. Usually, it's been the guest room though.

Here's Megan first thing in the morning. Don't you just love the crazy hair?

Meg's still sleeping in the crib because neither Meg or I are ready for her to be in a big girl bed. She tries to climb in, not out of the crib. AND she'll sit in her crib talking/playing by herself for up to an hour in the mornings. If she decides not to take a nap she's content to be in her crib for an 1 1/2 hours. Very useful when I need to get something done or just need a rest. Both of which I'm sure I'll need even more of if newbie ever comes out.

Believe it or not the people we bought the hose from had a daughter named Megan who had the same room! It must have been fate for us to have this house!

I'm still trying to figure out what to put above the dresser. There is a full length mirror on the back of her door so she doesn't really need another one. If anyone has any suggestions let me know!

More Pictures

Here's me in all my pregnant glory. 9 month prego and in a bathing suit. Can you tell I'm at the point of just not caring what I look like?

Megan and Unc Air splashing in the kiddie area at the local pool.

Nate and Megan. For some reason she insisted he hold his hands up like that. We never did figure out the reason - just a 2 year old's whim.

Megan and Unc Air posing at the swimming pool. Notice Megan's ducky towel. She loves it and will even quack occasionally while wearing it.

Megan and Grandpa. Megan decided to start calling my dad Poppy. I have no idea where she got that from. We were asking her to name the people in the room - Mommy, Daddy, Unc Air, Grandma, Poppy. "You mean Grandpa?" "No, Poppy." Ugh....OK. Fortunately, Dad doesn't seem to mind.

Unc Air

Uncle Aaron made a last minute visit this weekend. After a few minutes of shyness, Megan discovered she loved Unc Air. Of course, Unc Air had no trouble flipping, twisting, and flinging her around which defiantly endeared him to Meg. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.

Uncle Aaron reading to Meg & her baby.

Megan LOVED sitting up on Unc Air's shoulders. He would jump up and down and Megan would squeal in delight. She didn't want anyone else to do this, it HAD to be Unc Air.

What Not To Say To A Pregnant Woman

What is it about a pregnant woman that makes people loose all tact? People say & do things that they would NEVER do if I wasn't knocked up.

1. Size comments - "Wow, you're really big!", "Are you having twins?" or my personal favorite "There's no way you can make it much longer." Seriously? How would you feel if I went up to you and commented on the size of your butt? "Loving the donuts aren't we?" Wouldn't be so nice and conversational then would it? I know I'm pregnant and huge. I'm creating another human being you idiot.

2. Touching - Why do strangers feel the need to touch my belly. Am I Buddha? Do you need to rub me for luck? The next time someone touches my stomach without asking I'm going to grab their boob. "I'm sorry I thought you were a fan of inappropriate touching."

3. Sex of the baby comments - Inevitably, I get asked if we know what we're having. My initial sarcastic response (shocking that I would have a sarcastic response I know) would be "Yes, a baby." But I don't because I know we're defiantly in the minority by not finding out. When I tell people we didn't find out they act like I'm an alien that needs to be studied for freak research. "I could NEVER do that I'm too much of a planner." I am too - that's why we don't find out. Especially, with the first one I got lots of neutral stuff so there wasn't a lot I had to buy this time around. Besides why is that so crazy not to find out? After I had Meg and they put her on my chest Nate and I had several minutes of loving her just because she was our baby not because she was our daughter. I'll never have that experience with her again.

Sorry for my little tangent. I just needed to get that out of my system. Aghhhh........ feeling better now.

The Nursery!

Newbie's nursery is done! YEAH!! It took a lot of effort, mostly from Nathan and various others (and a little nagging from me) to get to this point, but we're here. Now all we need is newbie.

My mom painted it a medium green. She painted Megan's nursery in Georgia she wanted to do the same for newbie. Very pretty and calming - always something you need in a nursery. Nathan found a convertible crib (it'll eventually convert into a toddler bed then into a headboard and foot board for a double bed) on craigslist and brought it home. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE craigslist by the way. The rocker and dresser came from Meg's room since she got big girl furniture. OK, well she got the furniture that was originally in this room & in the guest room, but we're calling it her big girl furniture since I wanted the nursery furniture to match. The decorations are classic Winnie-the-Pooh and were handed down from my cousin. She used them with all 3 of her girls and my grandmother (the one Megan is named after) bought them for her. Love the family connection! I sewed the curtains myself. I have to admit they're very amateurish but look cute as long as you don't look to hard.

Of course, the baby has a bookcase in his/her room. Megan has one too. Believe it or not, the hardest part of getting the nursery ready was going through all of the kids books and selecting ones to put in the nursery. Reading is such a huge part of Meg's (and of course mine!) life it was really hard to get take some of her lesser loved books for newbie. Maybe I should just go buy a ton more for this one? I bet Nathan would just love that. I already spend too much money on kids books. I just can't resist. I love children's books.

When I found out I was knocked up we realized we had to rearrange all of the furniture upstairs so we could have a nursery, Meg's room and a guest room. The double bed started out in the guest room, then got moved into the nursery when we figured out Megan was not ready for a big girl bed. OK, well I realized it and had to convince Nate of that fact. It wasn't until I went to Baltimore for a long weekend and he tried to put Megan in the double bed that he agreed with me. Who wants to be up with a newborn AND a toddler? Dressers, side tables, & beds all got reworked. To make things a little more difficult, Nate and I bought a new bedroom set as our Christmas present to each other so we suddenly went from not having enough furniture to having too much furniture. Fortunately, the nursery & Megan's room are pretty big so they can accommodate the extra furniture without feeling over crowded.

It turned out to be a good thing that I was too lazy (although I prefer busy) to get the nursery decorations hung in Megan's room. She never noticed when I took the stack of pictures and things from her closet and transferred them to the new nursery. That meant I got to decorate Megan's room. Nathan is still refinishing the dresser that will go in Meg's room so when that's done I'll post pictures of her big girl room. I love it, even if it is girly-ier than I had anticipated.

Cameron and Megan

Cameron, otherwise known as The Beast, is our 3 year old Labradoodle. He is the most expressive dog you'll ever met. You can tell exactly what he is thinking just by looking at him. It's actually kind of funny. As my stomach has gotten bigger Cameron has been giving me a look that just says, "Are you kidding me? You're having another one?!?! Haven't I gone through enough with her?" He and Megan have become great friends. He was our first baby, but quickly lost his spot when Meg made her appearance. After only a few days of jealousy, Cammy quickly adjusted. And I just have to say he is wonderful with her. Megan beats up on him regularly - pulling his ears, trying to ride him, occasionally trying to use him as a trampoline and through it all Cameron just takes it. When he's had enough he'll give us a look that says, "Can you make her stop please?"

Anyway, he was very excited once Megan became useful to him. Once she started eating solids and could drop food over the side of her high chair - well, let's just say a bond for formed. they've been good friends ever since. Lately Cameron has discovered a new use for Megan - playing ball. if there is 1 thing Cameron likes more than food it's playing ball. And, Hallelujah, Megan is now big enough to throw balls a decent distance. They play in the house and in the yard. It's a great diversion for both of them. They enjoy this game so much I actually get to sit down and put my feet up for whole consecutive minutes at a time. As anyone who has a toddler knows that is just a miracle!

A quick note about newbie- I am less than a month away from my due date! I'm going to the doctor weekly now. At my apt. yesterday the baby is very low & I was measuring 2 weeks ahead meaning my belly is like that of woman who is 38 weeks prego instead of the 36 weeks that I am. Which means I grew 3 weeks worth in just the past week since I've been measuring right on for most of my pregnancy. The doctor felt up my stomach and estimated the baby is already around 7lbs., which needless to say, is pretty big considering I still have 3 1/2 weeks left. She wants to keep an eye on it because no one wants to deliver a 20 pounder! I'm not overly concerned since a different doctor estimated Meg would be over 9lbs and she was 8lbs 3 oz, but 21.5 inches long. I remember the doctor saying at one of my last apts. with Meg, "Whoa, there's a lot of baby in there!" My personal guess is that there is a lot of baby in there this time too, only a lot of length instead of chunk.
