My Little Reader

Have I mentioned that Megan is brillant? Just in case anyone wasn't sure - she is. She is in the wonderful toddler phase of needing to hear the same book over and over and over again. The Ba Ba book (actual name - One Lost Sheep) is currently her favorite. I was reading it to her at bedtime last night and she jumped in a few times to say the next word before I could read it. I was amazed! Now, I know she isn't actually reading but it does mean my little girl is showing early literacy skills. And I can't help but be excited about that.

P.S. Nathan would like to add that Megan is going to suffer from being a TK (teacher's kid) as only a teacher mommy would refer to Megan memorizing parts of a book as an early literacy skill.

Cousin Picts.

This weekend we went up to Cleveland to spend time with Nathan's family. Here are a few pictures of Megan and Shane. They played pretty well together. They shared some toys and Shane even helped pick Megan up when she fell down. It was so cute! Megan was obsessed with baby Katie. Every time Meg saw Katie she would yell "Baby!" She really wanted to play with the baby and we had to keep reminding her not to poke Katie. Apparently, that's Megan's way of playing with babies.

I really hope the cousins will be good friends. There is a year difference between each cousin. Shane is 10 months older than Megan. Meg is 16 months older than Katie and Katie will be 11 months older than the newbie. 4 years 4 kids. We are definatly a fertile bunch. ;)

Antagonizing Others

It's no secret that Megan is totally independent and strong willed little girl. She's completely my child. Except for 1 major trait that comes from Nate, Aaron & my dad. (At least that's who I'm choosing to blame.) She loves to antagonize others. Oh yes, and this trait has been coming out in full force lately. At day care, Meg loves to take toys from the other kids and run away taunting them as she goes. Yup, that's my child. Well last week, a little boy at day care was wearing a hat. And Ms. Thing kept taking off his hat and would just stand there waiting for him to cry. As soon as he started she'd give the hat back and walk away. She just wanted to make him cry. Of course, this was repeated many times throughout the day. Nice, huh? The only good thing I can say about these incidents is at least she's not sneaky about it. She wants full credit for misbehaving. Sometimes Meg will look right at you to make sure you're watching her misbehave. Did I mention she's defiant too? Oh, the joys of toddlerhood. Needless to say there are lots of time outs & conversations going on. I know she's listening to me because in the car she likes to run down the list of No No's. And I quote "Megan no, no hit" "no, no kick" & my favorite "Megan no, no fight." All said while wagging her index finger at me too. One day she'll do more than listen and actually follow the advice. Right?

helping

Megan loves to help. The trick is findings things she can help with that doesn't cause me more work. Here's Meg helping daddy scrub the kitchen floor. Her favorite part was sticking the brush in the water and letting it drip on the floor. Really, what's not to love about that?

Megan & the Potty

Meg has been peeing in the potty several times a day. Not all the time, but often enough to make it worth the effort of putting her on the potty. (She started it by the way. I didn't plan on even attempting to potty train her until this summer. But about 2 months ago the girl kept asking to sit on the potty. I put her off for a month then decided I would be stupid not to take advantage of her huge interest.) Well.....I picked Meg up at day care today and she pooped in the potty! So of course I asked her about it and she seemed so proud of herself. She even wanted to call the grandmas to tell them.

I guess that's something only parents and grandmas can fully appreciate. ;)

Here's a picture of Meg today playing with one of her favorites - the monkey in the box. She loves turning the crank stopping periodically to ask "Where monk?" Which is Megan for "Where's the monkey?" Then every time he pops up she gets all excited and tries to stuff it back in the box while saying, "Bye Bye monk." She's too stinking cute for words.

New baby

So I'm 15 weeks pregnant today. Yeah! This pregnancy seems to be flying by, thank goodness. I was really sick the first trimester. Poor Nathan had to take over pretty much all adult responsibilities as I could barely move off the couch. Fortunately, I woke up one morning around 13.5 weeks and felt good and thankfully have felt pretty good ever since. Amazing how that works isn't it? It's as if my body literally said "Oh, yeah. Pregnancy hormones, got it. No biggie."

I'm wondering how Megan will react to having a new baby brother/sister. She'll be 26 months when the newbie comes. She loves babies, but it will be much differnt when I can't play with her because I'm nursing the baby. I am also very curious to see what this one's personality will be like. Megan was very calm in utero, but definatly made up for it after she came out. I wonder if this one will be the opposite just because it can be. Megan was so advanced - doing everything months before the norm. Rolling over at 2 weeks, sitting up at 4 months, crawling at 6 months, walking at 8 months, etc. Will this one do it months ahead of time too? Or will he/she be at the opposite end of the time line? Time will tell I suppose.

Megan - the dirt eater

It's no secret that Meg loves to play outside. All I hear when I pick her and take her home is "side, side" which is Megan for outside. So needless to say with all of this nice weather we've been outside a lot lately. When I went to pick her up today she was covered in dirt; hands, pants, clothes, and mouth. Yes, mouth. Megan has decided that dirt is yummy. The day care teachers said they spent all day yelling, "Megan take that out of your mouth." So, we came home and played in the backyard and there was Megan eating dirt.....again. All I can say is it must be delicious.

I didn't think to get a picture of Megan, Megan dirt clump eater. So here's a picture from last weekend.

Trying to post some pictures

Here's Megan eating her favorite snack, Cheerios. As you can tell she definatly likes her books!

tantrums

Anyone else just love tantrums? Can't tell you how exciting it is to watch my 1 year old flop around screaming on the floor because I wouldn't give her some Cheerios. Ohhhh....the joys of mommyhood. The good news is that Megan got over it quickly, but then threw another one because I wouldn't give her a cookie.

Megan & babies

Megan has a slight obsession with babies. Good thing since she's going to be a big sister in Sept. Anytime we're out and she sees a baby she points to it and says repeatily baby. Any noise the baby makes imspires Meg to yell "BABY!" and try to get over to see it. It's acutally quite sweet.

The other day Megan pointed to my stomach and said baby. So today I asked her where the baby was. She pulled up her shirt and points to her belly.

It's so interesting to see all of the connections Megan is making. It still amazes me how fast she's growing up. Last year, at this time she was just starting to walk and today she's running everywhere. 3 months ago she would eat anything we put in front of her, but now she has definate ideas about what she wants to eat.

Just testing

Just testing to see if this actually working. Anyone out there who can read this?

Trying this again

All right so I'm trying to blog again. Hopefully it takes this time. Last time I had all kinds of trouble.

Let me tell you about Megan. This little girl cracks me up. She is just too funny for words. She loves books and frequently carries her favorites over asking you to "re buh." (That's read book to all of you who don't speak Megan!) She'll carry the same book from person to person to see how many times she can hear it in a 30 minute period.

Megan loves to torture the dog. Fortunatly, he's really good with her and just takes it. She'll grab his bone/toy/ball and run away just begging him to chase her down to get it back. Of course he does. At which point, she screams "Mine" as he (gently) takes back his toy/bone/ball.

She loves to carry things, and her new favorite object to cart around are balls. Megan gathers as many as she can hold and will carry them over to the Little Tykes basketball hoop and and try to dunk them all. A girl after my own heart!
